The palace park

Count Antal Grassalkovich established a beautiful garden around his Palace. In the garden which was accessible from the courtyard, there were straight paths and flowers blooming in the carefully designed flower beds. There was a fountain and a maze too. A kitchen garden was planted at the front, a bit further away a game park with a pheasantry was set up. The King’s Hill pavilion and the old avenue of chestnut trees are relics of former times.
Over the last 200 years the old garden has radically changed. The straight walks have been replaced by winding paths, avenues have given way to groves. In front of the Palace two swan ponds were constructed, but they were only filled up in the Royal period. Gardens were especially constructed for the king and queen in front of their suites. Later on, a tennis court and a swimming pool were also added to the garden.
