The Town Museum of Gödöllő

The Town Museum of Gödöllő is found in the oldest building of the town and its visitors are welcomed in a friendly and hospitable atmosphere. The exhibitions give an account of the way the native Presbyterian peasants, the settled Catholic craftsmen, the Israelitic merchants, the intellectuals and artists created and enriched the image of the town. On the one hand, the museum aims to encourage people to appreciate local values and to strengthen parochialism. On the other hand, with the introduction of two private collections (the collection of Ferenc Ignácz and of Zoltán Csupor), the museum reflects an open attitude towards the reception of other cultural values as well. By giving great attention to small details and having a demand for quality, the museum would like to influence the culture of the environment. This museum also aims to prompt people that it is worth living in Gödöllő whether it serves as a place of homeland (Ignác Török, Sándor Sík), secession (András Körösfői-Kriesch, Sándor Nagy, Jenő Remsey), or refuge (Zoltán Ambrus, Géza Ottlik).

The association aims to uphold the local traditions related to Queen Elisabeth and the Grassalkovich family. It carries out research about local history, holds informative presentations, and organises study trips.

Club for guides

This is a public meeting existing from 1999 6-8 times a year in the Royal Palace of Gödöllő. There are lectures on the history, on the reconstruction, on the actual programmes and on the exhibitions of the Palace. Visiting experts represent from the wide fields of the culture: they are historians, historians of art, restaurateurs, marketing experts, teachers, librarian, theatre historian, architect, amateur collector.Visitors are welcome in what follows for our free programme, which is mostly on the 3rd Tuesday of the month after closing of the Palace in one of the room on the ground floor.
